Grow confident, culturally grounded reo Māori capability—at work, during work hours.
Te Reo Tupu is the entry course within Ngā Kākano o te Reo. Learners establish accurate pronunciation, become familiar with high-use language patterns and develop the confidence to respond in predictable workplace interactions. Speaking is introduced gradually through repetition, supported sentence frames, partner practice and short application tasks. Reo learning is connected to tikanga and mātauranga Māori so learners understand both what they are saying and why it matters.

Across the programme, participants will:
Extend pronunciation, rhythm and oral fluency across longer phrases and unfamiliar kupu.
Use a wider range of active, descriptive, locative, possessive and time-based structures.
Connect sentences to communicate reasons, contrast, sequence and more detailed information.
Develop confidence participating in short unscripted conversations and responding to questions.
Extend mihi and pepeha with greater detail, cultural understanding and natural delivery.
Use k?waha and common linking expressions to make spoken reo more natural.
Communicate about routines, experiences, plans, people, places and workplace activity.
Deepen understanding of tikanga, values, p?r?kau and m?tauranga M?ori.
Apply language independently across a broader range of real-life situations.
Identify clear next steps for moving from supported language use toward sustained conversational growth.

By the end of the course, participants should be able to:
Pronounce familiar workplace language with care.
Use greetings, introductions and acknowledgements confidently.
Deliver a simple mihi and appropriate personal introduction.
Use basic noun, descriptive, action and question patterns.
Participate respectfully in karakia, waiata and introductory tikanga contexts.
Apply selected reo M?ori during normal workplace interactions.

Courses commence during the week of Monday 24 August 2026. The indicative final teaching week is the week of 26 October 2026.
Indicative public class streams:
Tuesday: 3.30pm�5.00pm
Wednesday: 5.30pm�7.00pm
Participants enrol in one stream. Where space permits, learners may attend the alternative stream when they cannot attend their usual class.
