“Be inspired, be amazing!”

Bring the thrill and excitement of adventure into the classroom with this high-energy unit. Students practise communicating about where events take place, what they have done, and their plans for future adventures.

Through creative projects and storytelling, learners design and present their own dream adventure park or destination using expressive reo Māori. This dynamic unit turns language learning into an imaginative adventure filled with creativity and kōrero.

Assessments

This unit includes a feature-style recorded presentation assessment designed to be engaging, achievable, and confidence-building. Learning is scaffolded to ensure ākonga absorb language meaningfully before producing it through expressive tasks.

Aligned with NZC Levels 3–4 and the Pou Reo framework — Kia Tika, Kia Rere, Kia Māori, and Kia Ora te Reo — assessment prioritises clarity, fluency, cultural integrity, and learner wellbeing. The focus is on authentic communication rather than technical perfection, encouraging courageous and enthusiastic reo use.

Ākonga will design and present their own virtual theme park or adventure destination using te reo Māori to describe attractions, activities, locations, and experiences.

Learners will create themed areas, rides, and interactive experiences with Māori names, descriptions, and visual elements while using expressive language, kīwaha, directional phrases, and future-focused structures to guide visitors through their world. They will present their adventure destination through posters, digital slideshows, videos, maps, or virtual tours using clear pronunciation and confident delivery.
