Grow confident, culturally grounded reo Māori capability—at work, during work hours.
Te Reo Kākano is a gentle starting point for adults who feel unsure, whakamā or overwhelmed by the idea of beginning te reo Māori. The course introduces the sound system, greetings, names, simple introductions, high-frequency expressions and the purpose of selected tikanga. It is deliberately paced to build trust, reduce anxiety and establish strong learning habits before participants progress into a longer course.

What this course covers
Whāinga Paetae | Course Objectives
Across the programme, participants will:
Consolidate accurate pronunciation and strengthen confidence speaking familiar reo M?ori.
Expand vocabulary for everyday people, places, objects, activities and workplace situations.
Use noun, descriptive, locative and simple active sentence structures accurately.
Ask and answer common questions and participate in short guided conversations.
Create and deliver a simple mihi or pepeha that reflects identity and connection.
Use karakia, greetings, acknowledgements and closing expressions with greater confidence.
Explore foundational tikanga and values that support respectful language use.
Apply te reo M?ori within meetings, emails, home routines or community interactions.
Build listening, reading, speaking and writing skills through practical and collaborative activities.
Create a personal practice plan that supports consistent vocabulary growth and spoken application.

Indicative public class streams:
Tuesday: 3.30pm�5.00pm
Wednesday: 5.30pm�7.00pm
Participants enrol in one stream. Where space permits, learners may attend the alternative stream when they cannot attend their usual class.
