Grow confident, culturally grounded reo Māori capability—at work, during work hours.
Ketekete te Kākā brings te reo Māori into the moments that already shape whānau life: waking up, getting ready, eating, travelling, playing, tidying, encouraging and spending time together. The programme is not built around memorising long vocabulary lists or completing academic grammar exercises. Whānau learn small, reusable language patterns and build them into routines, games, stories and conversations. Tamariki and adults learn alongside one another, with different family members taking the lead at different times.

Why This Course Matters in 2026
Language grows when it is heard and used regularly in places of belonging. Many adults want their tamariki to have more reo M?ori but feel they must become fluent before using it at home. This course removes that barrier. It focuses on achievable routines, collective encouragement and creating a home environment in which reo M?ori is normal, joyful and connected to wh?nau identity.

Whāinga Paetae | Course Objectives
Across the programme, participants will:
Build confidence using practical te reo M?ori within everyday wh?nau interactions and routines.
Learn accurate pronunciation so children hear clear and consistent language at home.
Use greetings, praise, encouragement, questions and simple instructions with tamariki.
Develop language for meals, getting ready, play, emotions, bedtime and other familiar situations.
Learn waiata, karakia, k?mu and repetitive language that make learning enjoyable and memorable.
Understand how language supports identity, belonging, connection and wh?nau wellbeing.
Explore simple tikanga and values that can be modelled through everyday wh?nau practice.
Create a supportive home environment where mistakes are welcomed and language grows through use.
Identify ways to involve wider wh?nau and maintain consistency across caregivers.
Develop a realistic wh?nau reo plan with phrases, routines and resources that can be sustained beyond the course.

Course Dates
Courses commence during the week of Monday 24 August 2026. The indicative final teaching week is the week of 19 October 2026.
Class Option 1:
Tuesday: 3.30pm - 5.00pm
CLass Option 2
Wednesday: 5.30pm - 7.00pm
Participants enrol in one stream. Where space permits, learners may attend the alternative stream when they cannot attend their usual class.
